A neighborhood with history. Kearns grew up on the site of Camp Kearns, the Army Air Forces training base that opened in 1942 about 14 miles west of Salt Lake City. After the base closed in 1946, homes went up quickly along its existing roads, which is why so much of Kearns sits on that tidy street grid. Many of those homes have now been around for decades, and their bathrooms often show it. Older bathrooms can hide worn supply lines, tired shower valves or water damage behind the tile. Once the walls are open, it's the right time to fix those.

Permits work a little differently here. Kearns became an official city on May 1, 2024, but building permits, planning and code enforcement are still handled by the Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District (MSD), not a city building office.
